Цветущая бугенвиллия всегда прекрасна, она определенно заслужила звание южной красавицы, но имя у нее французское - в честь мореплавателя Луи Антуана де Бугенвилля (1729-1811). В некоторых странах бугенвиллию называют "бумажным цветком", вероятно из-за того что прицветные листья немного напоминают тонкую цветную мятую бумагу.
 
  

Интересно то, что яркие части бугенвиллии - прицветники или видоизмененные листья, как их еще называют, не являются цветами. Настоящие цветы мелкие и малозаметные, расположены в окружении сердцевидных ярко-окрашенных прицветников. Но кто обратит на это внимание при таком половодье красок!

Интересные факты о бугенвиллии

В свое время бугенвиллию обнаружили в Бразилии, выращивали в особняках среди пальм Южной Флориды, и не один цветок не может похвастаться такой богатой и интересной историей, в которой присутствовали бы адмиралы, безумцы и женщины, переодетые в мужскую одежду.
 
  

Известного натуралиста Филибера Коммерсона (Philibert Commerson) считали безумным коллекционером растений. В истории имеется свидетельство, что Коммерсону помогал мужчина, который позднее оказался женщиной. Свою славу Коммерсон завоевал тем, что на холмах, окружающих Рио-де-Жанейро открыл яркое растение, которое назвал "бугенвиллия" в честь своего друга Бугенвилля. Вместе они отвезли свою восхитительную находку во Францию, где бугенвиллия превратилась в популярное тепличное растение.
 
 

Француженка Жанна Барре́ (фр.Jeanne Barret, 27 июля 1740-1803) - первая женщина, совершившая кругосветное путешествие. В 1766 г. она, переодевшись мужчиной и называя себя Жаном Барре, нанялась слугой к известному французскому ботанику Филиберу Коммерсону, который вскоре после этого должен был отправиться в кругосветное путешествие с экспедицией Бугенвилля.
